EXCLUSIVE: Bree Pearsall, Mother and Farmer

In honor of Women’s History Month, let’s visit Rootbound Farm, located in Oldham County, who joined the Bluegrass Harvest family in 2015. In its seventh year of production, Rootbound farm has flourished and thrived under the leadership and vision of Bree Pearsall and her family.

Bree began farming after working a summer job in between college semesters, where she picked tomatoes on a Kentucky farm. After receiving her MA in Social Work and a 10 year career, she decided to transition to being a full time entrepreneur alongside her husband, Ben Abell. Between the two of them, farming has become a lifelong passion and their natural calling.

“Farming means we get to work together as a family and help our community and neighbors have access to healthy and delicious food,” said Bree. “I enjoy helping discover new ways to enjoy vegetables and making it easier for people to incorporate more vegetables into their daily lives.”

At Rootbound Farm, Bree and Ben value sustainability and a holistic approach to agriculture above all else.

“It’s an honor to be able to make a living by tending the Earth and we aim to farm in a way that has a positive impact on the air, water, and soil.” said Bree. “I believe it is our duty to conserve our natural resources so that this planet can continue to sustain our children and the future generations as well.”

Rootbound Farm is a member of the highly successful Bluegrass Harvest initiative and delivers weekly boxes of vegetables to consumers for 20+ weeks out of the year.
